A great benefit of living in Vancouver is our proximity to Whistler, one of the best four-season resorts in North America. We can ski, snowboard and snow shoe in the winter, hike and zip line in the summer, all within easy distancejust a few hours away--of Vancouver.
One of Whistlers great annual events, the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival (TWSSF), is rapidly becoming world famous. A free, 10-day celebration of snow sports, music, arts and mountain life, the TWSSF has events for everyone of every age.
- When: Friday, April 17 Sunday, April 26
- Where: Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains and Whistler village, Whistler, BC
- Getting to The TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival: Driving up is easy for most Vancouverites, but there are other options, too. Take the Whistler Mountaineer train, with its fantastic Sea-to-Sky corridor scenic views, or get there by bus.
For music lovers, there are free outdoor music concerts every day on the main stage in Whistler village, making this the biggest free outdoor concert series in North America. This year's performers include The Stills, Ozomatli, Thornley, Arkells, and 54-40.
For sports lovers, free hill events include the World Snowboarding Open, World Skiing Invitational and the must-be-seen Orage Masters, where eight teams of four skiers compete head-to-head in an event that's part slopestyle, part free-for-all and part masquerade party.
There are also film premieres, family activities, free ski and snowboard demo days, the epic skateboarding event Skate & Deploy, and the Whistler DogFest and dog parade.
Mountain culture and arts are on display everywhere, so take time to tour through the village. The free music concerts continue at night at the village clubs and bars, part of Kokanees Freeride Club Series.
Tickets are required for a few of the evening events, including DJ Experience, Words & Stories, Fashion Exposed, the Photographer Showdown and the Filmmaker Showdown.
