HSBC Celebration of Light
What: August 1 is the last night for summer fireworks over English Bay. Show starts at 10pm, rain or shine.
Where: Best viewing points include English Bay, Kitsilano, Vanier Park, Jericho Beach, West Vancouver.

Vancouver Pride Festival
What: The first weekend of August is packed with Pride events leading up to the climactic Vancouver Pride Parade on August 2. Check out the Pride Society site for event listings and details.

Theatre Under the Stars: Annie and Thoroughly Modern Millie
What: TUTS is a summer tradition, performing acclaimed musicals under the stars at Stanley Park’s Malkin Bowl.

Cost: $34 - $39; kids (5 – 15) $32 - $37; free for kids under 5

Enchanted Evenings Concert Series at Dr. Sun Yat Sen Chinese Garden
What: Enjoy Friday night concerts in the gorgeous, tranquil Dr. Sun Yat Sen Chinese Garden in Chinatown. This summer’s repertoire includes classical, world, Asian, Gypsy jazz, African and fusion music.
Where: Dr. Sun Yat Sen Chinese Garden, 578 Carrall St., Vancouver
Cost: $18; $15 for Garden Society members; $125 season pass

Saturday, August 1 – Sunday, August 2
33rd Annual Powell Street Festival
What: The Powell Street Festival is an annual celebration of Japanese Canadian arts, culture and heritage that features dance, music, film and video, visual arts, martial arts demos, an amateur sumo tournament, craft vendors, traditional displays, and tons of Japanese food.

Sunday, August 2
Vancouver Pride Parade & Festival
What: Vancouver’s world-class Pride Parade is expected to attract over 500,000 people this year! Beginning at Robson and Thurlow in downtown Vancouver and culminating at Sunset Beach, this year's parade includes 150 floats in an amazing display of diversity, creativity and spirit. The Parade starts at 12pm; Festival starts at 2pm.

10th Annual Vancouver Chinatown Festival
What: Chinatown celebrates multiculturalism with this two-day festival that includes multicultural stage performers, an open-air market and children's activities.

Art in the Garden
What: This year’s Art in the Garden event—which showcases art from 20 B.C. artists—takes place in UBC’s beautiful Botanical Garden.

50th Anniversary Maritime Festival at Vancouver Maritime Museum
What: There are tons of kids’ activities happening at the anniversary party for Vancouver’s more-fun-than-it-sounds Maritime Museum: live performers, kids’ crafts, boat tours, birthday cake and more!

21st Annual Vancouver Queer Film Festival
What: The Vancouver Queer Film Festival brings the best in queer independent cinema from around the world to Vancouver.

Wednesday, August 12 – Saturday, August 22
SHINE: A Burlesque Musical
What: A collaboration created by Vancouver’s Screaming Chicken Theatrical Society and the Wet Spots, this original musical was first shown at this year’s Burlesque Festival to sold-out crowds.
Where: Waterfront Theatre, 1412 Cartwright St., Granville Island, Vancouver

Sunday, August 16
Latin Summer Fest
What: This Latin-culture festival begins with a parade down Commercial Dr. and culminates in a party in Trout Lake Park, with live music, Latin food, Flamenco and Cuban Rueda artists, kids’ activities and more.
Where: Trout Lake Park, 3300 Victoria Drive, Vancouver

Saturday, August 22 – Monday, September 7
The Fair at PNE Vancouver
What: The Fair at the PNE is fun for the whole family: over 800 performances and exhibits and more than 50 exciting rides and attractions.

Ongoing through September 13
Vermeer, Rembrandt and the Golden Age of Dutch Art--Masterpieces from The Rijksmuseum at the Vancouver Art Gallery
What: In collaboration with the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, the Vancouver Art Gallery exhibits paintings from the Dutch masters of the 17th century, as well as an array of decorative arts, including furniture, silver, porcelain, and textiles.
