  • Vancouver Chinatown Night Market
    What: Chinatown’s night market has something for everyone, including Asian handicrafts, fashionable gifts, and lots of food.
    When: Friday, May 16 – Sunday, September 7, every Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays
    Where: Keefer St., between Main St. and Gore St., Vancouver
    Cost: Free

  • Bard on the Beach
    What: The 19th season of Bard on the Beach, one of Canada's largest not-for-profit, professional Shakespeare Festivals, features Shakespeare plays, related dramas, and several special events in two performance tents.
    When: Thursday, May 29 – Saturday, September 27
    Where: Vanier Park, Vancouver
    Cost: $18 - $33, or all plays for $120

  • Music in the Park 2008
    What: Vancouver presents a series of free music concerts at beautiful Alexandra Park overlooking English Bay. Performers include The Randy Bluegrass Boys, the Rainbow Concert Band, the big-band-music Tunemakers, and more.
    When: Sundays, June 1 - August 31
    Where: Haywood Bandshell, Alexandra Park, 1755 Beach Avenue, Vancouver

  • Vancouver Early Music Festival 2008
    What: From Mediæval to Baroque to Middle Eastern love songs, the Early Music Festival brings early music to life in a series of summer concerts, programmes, and lectures.
    When: Sunday, July 20 – Friday, August 15
    Where: UBC School of Music Recital Hall, 6361 Memorial Road, Vancouver

  • HSBC Celebration of Light
    What: The HSBC Celebration of Light annual pyro-musical fireworks competition takes place over Vancouver’s English Bay. This year’s competition pits Canada against fireworks displays from the U.S. and China.
    When: Wednesday & Saturday July 23 & July 26; Wednesday & Saturday, July 30 & August 2
    Where: Best viewing points include English Bay, Kitsilano, Vanier Park, Jericho Beach, West Vancouver.
    Cost: Free beach viewing; $30 for prime-viewing seats

  • Gay Pride Festival Week
    What: The build-up to 2008’s Gay Pride Parade is an event-filled week including fashion shows, Pride movie nights, and more. See site for complete details.

  • BC Culture Crawl - Vancouver
    What: The 7th Annual BC Culture Crawl is a month-long, province-wide celebration of the many unique arts and cultures of BC. Over 70 communities across the province are participating, including many in Vancouver and nearby. Examples include Granville Island street festivals and live performances, city culture crawls in Surrey and Burnaby, museum events and more. See site for details.

  • Digital Storm LAN 2008
    What: Digital Storm LAN is a 48 hour video game tournament and World Cyber Games qualifying tournament for youth aged 13+. Contestants compete for donated prizes; proceeds fund a digital media education centre in Aldergrove, BC.
    When: Friday, August 1 – Sunday, August 3
    Where: Croatian Cultural Centre, 3250 Commercial Drive, Vancouver

  • Pride Weekend Launch
    What: The official kick-off for Pride Parade weekend is this event at the Vancouver Art Gallery, which includes a Krispy Kreme doughnut fundraiser, a chance to meet this year’s Grand Marshals (at noon), the presentation of the Pride Week Proclamation by the Mayor, and a chance to show support of international GLBT communities and their respective fights for equality by signing the Declaration of Montreal.
    When: Friday, August 1, 7am – 2pm
    Where: Vancouver Art Gallery, 750 Hornby Street, Vancouver

  • Koodo's Big Night Out
    What: Another Pride party from the Vancouver Pride Society, this Davie St. street party will feature DJs, multiple stages, artisans, dancing, a youth area, and a beer garden.
    When: Friday, August 1, 7pm - 12am
    Where: Davie St., between Burrard and Bute, downtown Vancouver
    Cost: Free; $5 for entrance to the beer garden

  • Terry Wallace Breakfast
    What: A Pride weekend tradition, this pancake breakfast and fundraiser includes a chance to meet Terry Wallace, a founder of Vancouver Pride, while enjoying local choirs and live music.
    When: Saturday, August 2, 9am - 1pm
    Where: Davie St. and Bute, downtown Vancouver
    Cost: A donation of your choice

  • 32nd Annual Powell Street Festival
    What: The Powell Street Festival is an annual celebration of Japanese Canadian arts, culture and heritage that features dance, music, film and video, visual arts, martial arts demos, an amateur sumo tournament, craft vendors, traditional displays, and tons of Japanese food.
    When: Saturday, August 2 – Sunday, August 3
    Where: Oppenheimer Park, 400 Powell St., Vancouver
    Cost: Free

  • Vancouver Pride Parade
    What: Vancouver’s world-class Pride Parade is expected to attract 500,000 people this year! Beginning at Robson and Thurlow in downtown Vancouver and culminating at Sunset Beach, this year's parade includes 150 floats in an amazing display of diversity, creativity and spirit.
    When: Sunday, August 3, 12pm - 2pm
    Where: Begins at Robson St. and Thurlow in downtown Vancouver, ends at Sunset Beach. Parade Route Map

  • Vancouver Pride Festival
    What: After the Pride Parade, festivities continue at the Pride Festival on Sunset Beach, where there will be live music on the Vancity Festival Stage, vendors, beer gardens, and more.
    When: Sunday, August 3, 2pm - 6pm
    Where: Sunset Beach, between Bute and Thurlow in downtown Vancouver
    Cost: Free
