  • Sonic Boom 2008 - A Festival of New Music by BC Composers
    What: Vancouver Pro Musica presents the 21st annual Sonic Boom music festival, showcasing new music from 41 different BC composers.
    When: Thursday, April 10 – Sunday, April 13
    Where: The Western Front, 303 East 8th Avenue, Vancouver
    Cost: $20 general, $10 for students and seniors, $35 Festival Pass; tickets only available at the door.

  • TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival
    What: The TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival is a 10-day festival featuring 50 live concerts—including free outdoor concerts every day—pro ski and snowboard camps, arts events, gear demos, and special parties.
    When: Friday, April 11 – Sunday, April 20
    Where: Various locations in Whistler, BC – check the site for event listings.
    Cost: Varies, but many events are free

  • The Mambo Kings
    What: The Mambo Kings team up with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for an evening of great Latin and Brazillian song and dance.
    When: Friday, April 11 – Saturday, April 12
    Where: Orpheum Theatre, 601 Smithe Street, Vancouver
    Cost: $20 -$55

  • SWEET - In the House Festival Fundraiser
    What: This benefit to support the art-and-performance In the House Festival (coming in June) offers chocolate fountains at dinner followed by dancing to African, Latin and swing music.
    When: Saturday, April 12, but tickets must be purchased by April 10
    Where: Ukrainian Hall, 805 E. Pender St., Vancouver
    Cost: $40 for dinner and shows, $20 for shows only

  • Vancouver Whitecaps vs Montreal Impact
    What: Vancouver’s men’s soccer team faces off against the Montreal Impact.
    When: Saturday, April 12
    Where: Swangard Stadium, Boundary St. And Kingsway Ave., Burnaby
    Cost: $18 - $35

  • Vancouver English Country Dance Ball
    What: In the mood for a little dancing Jane Austin-style? This English ball has live music and practice sessions for beginners before the main event.
    When: Saturday, April 12
    Where: Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson St., Vancouver
    Cost: $40

  • AccolAIDS Awards Gala 2008
    What: Enjoy dinner, live entertainment and a silent auction to benefit the BC Persons With AIDS Society and celebrate award winners at the 7th annual AccolAIDS Awards Gala.
    When: Sunday, April 13
    Where: Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, 900 West Georgia St, Vancouver
    Cost: $150, or $1,200 for a table for eight

  • Kids’ Koncerts: Charlotte And The Music Maker
    What: Acclaimed children’s entertainers Platypus Theatre team up with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra to present this magical, musical children’s journey.

    Where: Orpheum Theatre, 601 Smithe Street, Vancouver

  • Elastic Perspective
    What: The six-member Rubberbandance Group from Montreal is making an international name for itself with original dance inspired by an urban mix of hip hop, break dance and ballet.
    When: Tuesday, 15 – Saturday, April 19
    Where: Vancouver East Cultural Centre, 1895 Venables Street, Vancouver
    Cost: $20 -$24

  • Extraordinary Canadians
    What: The Vancouver International Writers Festival and Penguin Books Canada present a special forum with award winner David Adams Richards, historian and author Charlotte Gray, and acclaimed novelist Lewis DeSoto, who will each speak about Penguin’s new series on extraordinary Canadians.
    When: Thursday, April 17
    Where: H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, 1100 Chestnut Street, Vancouver
    Cost: $13 - $15

  • Peter Pan
    What: Ballet BC performs the kid-friendly Peter Pan, based on the children’s classic by J.M. Barrie, complete with sword fights and high-flying action.
    When: Thursday, April 17 – Saturday, April 19
    Where: Queen Elizabeth Theatre, 630 Hamilton Street, Vancouver
    Cost: $27 - $75

  • EPIC 2008: The Sustainable Living Expo
    What: The Vancouver Sun Sustainable Living Expo is Vancouver’s largest green consumer show and eco-marketplace. See the latest eco-products and attend seminars with eco-celebs and environmental gurus.
    When: Friday, April 18 – Sunday, April 20
    Where: Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre, 200-999 Canada Place, Vancouver

  • Bike the Blossoms
    What: Part of the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival, this self-guided, city-wide biking event (not a race) is designed to let you enjoy the city’s blossoming cherry trees.
    When: Saturday, April 19
    Where: Vandusen Botanical Garden, 5251 Oak St., Vancouver
    Cost: Free

  • Kerrisdale Antiques Fair
    What: An annual favorite, the fair has 60 vendors of all types of antiques: furniture, decor, estate jewelry, memorabilia. Find out what your heirlooms are worth at their appraisal clinic.
    When: Saturday, April 19 – Sunday, April 20
    Where: Kerrisdale Arena, 5670 East Boulevard, Vancouver
    Cost: Free

  • The Vancouver Sun Run
    What: Canada’s largest community 10K run is great for athletes of all abilities: runners, wheelchairs, walkers, baby joggers. The scenic route takes you around English Bay.
    When: April 20, but April 19 is the last day to register
    Where: Georgia St, between Seymour St. and Thurlow St.
    Cost: $40
