Guide Review - Red Door Pan Asian Grill
With its warm atmosphere, fun specialty cocktails and lively dinner and after-work crowd, the Red Door is a terrific choice for Asian food when you want variety. The "Pan Asian" part of the name means just that: food from all over Asia.
There are plenty of traditional favourites to choose from, some better than others: Singapore Street Noodles, Sichuan Beans, Ginger Beef. The Red Curry Shrimp is very good; I personally find the Dragon Fire Chicken too dry.
The menu's must-try item is the Soothing Lettuce Wraps appetizer. It's a mix of diced chicken, Chinese sausage, shiitakes and water chestnuts wok-seared with hoi sin and served in a bowl. You spoon the delicious concoction into a crisp iceberg lettuce leaf and eat it like a wrap. It's ridiculously messy and absurdly tasty.
There are two other great things about the Red Door: it has pre-dinner packages for Stanley Theatre-goers, and you can call ahead for take-out that they'll bring to your car.
