Vancouver Municipal Election - Voting in Vancouver
How to Vote in Vancouver's Municipal Election

By Dana Lynch, About.com

The City of Vancouver’s next municipal election will be held on November 15, 2008. Polls will be open from 8am – 8pm.

What’s on the ballot?

You can vote in the Vancouver municipal election if you are:

  • a Canadian citizen

  • a resident of Vancouver for at least six months prior to registering to vote

  • a non-resident property elector

  • at least 18 years old on election day

  • registered to vote (i.e., an elector)

Am I registered to vote? Where do I vote?

Registered electors—people whose names are already on the City's Voters List--will receive a "Where to Vote" card in the mail around the end of October. This card will tell you your voting division and voting place address.

Don’t worry if you aren’t registered: you can register on the day of the election at your voting place or you can register before the election at one of the advance voting places.

Find your voting place.

Do I need I.D. to register to vote?

Yes! To register to vote you must have two pieces of I.D. showing your name and address; at least one of the I.D.s must also show your signature.

Examples of acceptable I.D.

Advanced Voting

You can vote—and register to vote—in advance on November 5, 8, 10 and 12, 8am – 8pm, at:

Residents of University Endowment Lands (UEL): Remember, UEL are outside the City of Vancouver boundaries, which means that UEL residents can’t vote for Mayor, Councillors or Park Commissioners. UEL residents can only vote for School Trustees.
