It's the proverbial jump into the new year, except in this version you get very, very wet: The annual Vancouver Polar Bear Swim happens this Tuesday, January 1, 2013.
The Vancouver Polar Bear Swim is a cold-water swim that brings thousands to English Bay Beach. Swimmers--wearing everything from crazy costumes to actual bathing suits--rush into English Bay to celebrate the New Year. There a Peter Pantages Memorial 100 yard swim race, prizes, and lots of fun--It's all free and anyone can participate in the race. (You do have to be a member of the you Polar Bear Swim club to race, but you can register on-site for free, at the English Bay Boathouse 12:30pm to 2:30pm on January 1).
Do bring non-perishable food or cash donations for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
The 93rd annual Vancouver Polar Bear Swim happens 12pm - 2:30pm at English Bay Beach on January 1, 2013. Happy New Year!
