Back for its third and final year, Zimsculpt--the exhibition and sale of Zimbabwean stone sculptures--returns to VanDusen Botanical Garden through September 25, 2011.
If you didn't catch this art exhibit in 2009 or 2010, this is your last chance to see it in the gorgeous setting of one of Vancouver's top gardens.
What I love about Zimsculpt is how perfectly suited these large, modern-yet-spiritual sculptures are to VanDusen's traditional garden landscapes. It's almost as if these sculptures were meant to be seen in a garden, they seem so at home here. I love how natural they look, rising out of a cluster of flowers or standing proudly at the edge of a lake.
This year, curator Vivienne Croissette has brought over 150 sculptures to the exhibit, from both established and emerging Zimbabwean artists. All of the works on display are for sale (there are also smaller pieces for sale in the "sale tent" just inside the Garden's entrance), and partial proceeds go toward supporting VanDusen itself.
If you needed an excuse to visit VanDusen in all its late-summer glory, this is a great one. I highly recommend this show!
