Got Your Costume? Vancouver Halloween 2009

Thursday October 22, 2009

There are tons of things I love about Halloween, but costume stress isn't one of them: What to wear, where to buy it, or--which I personally suck at--how to make it.

I've overcome my costume stress with the help of two things: the following Vancouver costume shops (where I can just buy something and be done with it) and my fellow About guides, who have brilliant suggestions for DIY costumes, both elaborate and cheap.

Vancouver Costume Shops

One thing to note: These places are packed the closer it gets to Halloween. I've been to Party Bazaar when there was a line around the block just to get in! Seriously. So: Shop early.

  • Party Bazaar, 215 W 2nd Ave, Vancouver, 604-873-5241

  • More Madness Costumes, 3350 Fraser St., Vancouver, 604-734-8865

  • Just Imagine - Dress-up for Kids, 3060 W Broadway, Vancouver, 604-222-3523

  • The Costume Shoppe, 150-4255 Arbutus St., Vancouver, 604-733-3694

Don't want to buy? Rent at Watts Costume Rentals.

Thanks Debra! I recently included Welk’s in a list of great Vancouver discount stores; good to hear they have good Halloween bargains, too.

It’s a little late now (Nov 1st!!) but Dressew at 337 W Hastings has a fabulous assortment of masks, capes, accessories and other bits and pieces as well as fabric for the do-it-yourselfers. Very reasonable prices. too. You’ll encounter lineups as it gets closer to Halloween, so next year get there earlier in the month!
